What is Folvite?

Folvite is a dietary supplement medicine usually prescribed for folate and vitamin B deficiency. This medicine comes in the form of small uncoated tablets, which are to be administered orally.

This medicine is manufactured and marketed by Wyeth pharmaceuticals limited (now known as Pfizer). It comes in a strip containing 30 tablets per strip.

What is the Generic Medicine in Folvite Tablets?

Each Folvite tablets come in the form of small tablets containing 5 mg strength of Folate (Folic Acid) as the generic medicine in it.

Folic Acid is known as Vitamin B9. This vitamin is naturally synthesized in the human body. The tablets contain the artificially made Vitamin B9. Folate is also found in the many food items we eat such as Okra, Citrus foods, Broccoli, Brussels sprout etc. Eating such food with this medicine will speed up the recovery of the patient.

Dosage of Folvite

The dosage of the tablets will depend on the severity of the problem it is administered for. Generally prescribed dose for adults is 1 tablet twice each day. You can take the tablets with a glass of drinking water after your meals.

Folvite Tablets are safe to be taken during pregnancy. The US FDA has approved the medicine in Category ‘A’ for use during pregnancy.

Pregnancy Category ‘A’ means that this medicine has No risk in controlled human studies: Adequate and well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).

The implications of using this tablet while breastfeeding are quite ambiguous.
